Interpretation Services
Interpretation services are provided through our in-house
Fugro-LCT Interpretation Services group (formerly, Galileo
Geophysics which is now a division of Fugro-LCT). This group
utilizes the Fugro-LCT suite of software tools for performing
interpretations and modeling. Our staff has interpreted data
sets from throughout the world, in diverse geological areas,
ranging from regional frontier studies to the prospect level.
The Fugro-LCT Interpretation Services group will work with the
client to provide an interpretation that will be specific to the
data set and tailored to address the geological issues in the
project area.
Published examples of integrated interpretation projects
undertaken by Fugro-LCT can be found under the
Technical Papers area.
Interpretation Tools
Fugro-LCT's Interpretation Services group has many
interpretive methods to meet our client's needs. Each
interpretation is unique and varies based on specific client
requirements. Factors influencing interpretation include:
quality and quantity of geological and geophysical constraints,
the amount of anomalous character in the potential field,
project timing, and economic factors. The following are examples
of some of the commonly used procedures during an
interpretation:
- Regional and residual gravity field separation
- Reduction to magnetic pole and/or equator
- Derivatives and integrals
- Upward / downward continuation
- Strike filters
- Match or pseudo-depth slice filters
- Horizontal and total gradients
- Two and three-dimensional integrated geologic modeling
combining seismic, gravity & magnetics
- Qualitative analysis
- Tectonic elements / structural features mapping
- Sediment pathways
Depth to magnetic
source estimation using multiple methods are typically applied
to profiles of large magnetic data sets. The results, contoured
using geophysical constraints combined with geologic knowledge
and concepts, are used to construct a depth to magnetic basement
interpretation. These methods include:
- Euler deconvolution (2-D, 3-D and extended 3-D)
- Werner
- Naudy
- Source Parameter Imaging (SPI)
- Peter's ½ slope, Bean Ratio A, other manual methods.

Non-Exclusive Products
Fugro-LCT Interpretation Services has several exciting
non-exclusive products that have been proven to be extremely
useful to our clients.
One of these products is the
Atlas of Regional Gravity Fields. These products enable the
explorationist to rapidly inspect and evaluate aspects of the
earth's gravity field. The maps and grid products are
enhancements derived from public domain data, presented in a
format that can be directly imported into your workstation
mapping and analysis tools. For a detailed summary of areas
available in our Atlas products, click on the link to the
Atlas of Regional Gravity Fields.
Another exciting non-exclusive product is the
Salt Nil Zone, which examines the geometry of the Salt Nil
Zone, defined as the thickness over which the density of the
surrounding sediment and the density of the salt are equal. The
Salt Nil Zone Project covers offshore Texas and Louisiana into
the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, and was derived from Geophysical
Development Corporation's (GDC) extensive Rock Properties Data
Base.
Our newest non-exclusive project is an agreement with
Marathon Oil and Gibson Consulting to market and support
interpretations that Mr. Gibson produced recently on a
proprietary basis for Marathon. The interpretations were
developed using detailed analysis of satellite-derived gravity
data, topography, and geologic information including, in some
cases, published seismic and well control. The full brochure can
be viewed by clicking on
Satellite Gravity Interpretations of Rifted Margins of the World.
